Jang Nara to Participate in Asia-Pacific Music Chart Awards

Singer Jang Nara is likely to be nominated for two 2004-2005 Asia-Pacific Music Chart awards. Jang's official website, http://www.narajjang.com , reported on June 19 that in addition to the Best Asian Artist award, Jang has also emerged as a likely candidate for the special merit award for her contribution to promoting Korea-China cultural exchanges.

"The Asia-Pacific Music Chart is considering ways to bolster cooperation with Korean artists, who have recently taken the center stage of Asian pop-culture, with the 2004-2005 award ceremonies giving momentum. The organizers of the ceremony plan to establish a special merit prize to be awarded to artists who contribute to cultural exchanges between Korea and China, and this year Jang Nara is very likely to receive it", reported the website.

Since her debut in China in September of last year, Jang has released a Chinese-language album, and became the first foreign artist to sell over one million copies and receive the Most Popular Artist award from the China Golden Disc organized by the Chinese government.

In May, Jang also released in China her fourth album, which was released in Korea last December and topped the sales charts. Sina.com reported on June 13 that Jang's Korean-language album entitled "My Story" enjoyed "explosive popularity", with repeated orders pouring in from various regions. The album entered the top 10 of Jinhwa Ilbo's weekly album sales ranking on June 10.
