LEE Myeong-se to Direct Horror Melodrama

Director LEE Myeong-se's next project is a horror melodrama titled M. The production was part of the Film Market at the Cannes Film Festival. The story is about a man struggling to remember something important, a woman who is unrecognized by the man she's in love with and death.

Another LEE film, his 1988 debut film "Gagman" - is going to be released on DVD as part of Taehung Pictures Collection later this month June. "Gagman is easily recognizable as a LEE Myeong-se film and the film is acclaimed for its creativeness.

LEE Myeong-se is the director of last year's "Duelist". The film polarized its viewers from people who thought the film was utterly bad to people who judged it as a brilliant film. The film starring KANG Dong-won, HA Ji-won and AHN Seong-gi was recently released in French cinemas and was earlier released in Japan.

Director LEE focuses on choreographing movement and visual esthetics. His stories don't follow the general rules of story-telling. Another factor that deviates from the norm is the acting in LEE's films. Therefore, his films often praised by critics - have not reached wide audiences.

LEE's 1999 film Nowhere To Hide gained him international recognition. The film was a fusion of genres. The style, visuals and movement impressed the brothers Ridley and Tony Scott and they invited him to America to collaborate. LEE returned to Korea to make Duelist.
