Movable property can be registered as modern cultural assets

Korea's first movie films, academic works and manuscripts of authors of the country's enlightenment period in early 20th century can be registered as Modern Cultural Heritage items and holders of such items can exercise their rights to properties, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism said Monday (Aug.1).

Announcing a streamlined system of its registered cultural properties, the ministry said not only structures and facilities of real estate nature, but also cultural properties of movable property nature can be registered as cultural heritages, paving the way for those items in the enlightenment period to be listed as cultural assets.

To be qualified to be registered as modern cultural heritages, items should be at least 50 years old and in case of those less than 50 years, if they merit special value to preserve, they could be so through clearance of the Cultural Assets Deliberation Committee's scrutiny.
