[Orion's Daily Ramblings] Kang Ji-hwan Loves his Luminol in New "Children of a Lesser God" Teaser

In what is a bit of a jarring tonal and stylistic shift from the first three teasers of the series and their dark fairytale appeal, "Children of a Lesser God" decides to introduce its male lead in a more standard, sleek manner. Kang Ji-hwan's detective is here to dazzle us with his IQ of 167, which is somehow not enough to stop a Dramaland cop from being careless at a crime scene.

I know this is a concept teaser, but it's just so funny seeing our Cheon Jae-in toss a bottle of luminol at a wall like he's about to make an abstract art piece. It doesn't help that this concept is essentially a prettier version of the negligence that most drama persons of the law exhibit when supposedly doing serious police work. I'm sure a self-loving genius like our hero will be more careful in the actual drama, but I still brace myself for the inevitable slip ups.

The teaser itself is very standard OCN fare and the message of the drama repeats; the truth is hidden and what the eyes can see is not the whole story. I'm actually disappointed to see this type of a promotional video after the refreshing, cryptic and atmospheric first three teasers. The frame rate issue of the second one featuring the ocean is embarrassing, yes, but the ideas used in those are solid.

You can't give us eerie bells, duck-bunnies and otherworldly landscapes, along with an actual princess character, and then throw a boring drama detective at us. I mean, he's Kang Ji-hwan and I love him to bits, but I want the more interesting stuff back. Or at least I want to sulk while accepting that I probably won't get it. I'll just look at these Kang Ji-hwan stills for comfort.
