Robot Taekwon V forms a strategic alliance with Sonokong

Korea's famous animated character Robot Taekwon V and local toymaker Sonokong have joined forces.
On September 29, Sonokong (Chairman: Choi Shin-gyu) and Robot Taekwon V (President: Shin Cheol) announced a strategic alliance, with the former taking part in the Taekwon V Project centered on the 18 billion-won blockbuster film 'Robot Taekwon V' (working title) as a partner for toy development and licensing.

The industry says the combination live-action/animated film 'Robot Taekwon V' got a boost from the partnership. The film is scheduled for release in the second half of 2010.

Sonokong, under the guidance of Chairman Choi Shin-gyu, set a record of selling 15 million units of Top Blade, a computer game presenting a modern take on Pang-i, the traditional Korean spinning top. President Shin Cheol of Robot Taekwon V has produced so many hit films such as 'The Letter', "A Promise", and 'My Sassy Girl' through Shin Cine Communications over the past 20 years. As the first-generation director he is now called 'the producer with the Midas touch'.

Commenting on the strategic alliance with Robert Taekwon V, Mr. Choi Shin-gyu said, "Robot Taekwon V is indisputably the country's representative cartoon character. No other cultural pop content appeals to such a wide range of age groups. Moreover, it can be used in various ways. We will strive to turn Robot Taekwon V into a world-famous brand winning hearts and minds of people around the globe as Mickey Mouse, Gundam, and Atom do".

For his part, Mr. Shin Cheol said, "I am happy to collaborate with Sonokong as part of the first initiative to raise the level of the domestic toy industry to that of cultural industries in advanced countries. I hope that this will serve as a starting point for relevant sectors such as computer games and publishing to gain momentum".
