The 21st Busan International Film Festival is opening its curtains on October 6 for 10 days. 301 films from 69 countries will be introduced this year and 123 World Premieres and International Premieres will be screened in 5 theaters.

This year's BIFF had a lot of static due to the conflict between Busan City and the organizing committee on the event's independence and autonomy. Busan City even sued the committee with resources based on results announced in September. This led to the boycott of movie makers demanding the autonomy of movies.

In the end, the committee and Busan City came to a mutual agreement and decided to open curtains 5 months before the opening date. However, some organizations are still on boycott and word is out there that the BIFF this year is only half its usual size.

One day before its opening, another disaster struck. Storm number 18 CHABA hit Busan on the 5th and the outdoor stage outside of Haeundae Beach was destroyed. Therefore, the events that were initially planned to be held out there will be held indoors.

Meanwhile, the 21st BIFF starts on the 6th at 6PM in Haeundae. Seol Kyeong-goo and Han Hyo-joo are hosting the opening event and the opening film is Jang Yool's "A Quiet Dream".
