The Second Annual Korean Film Festival going on in Washington, DC.

Aiming to raise interests in Korean culture and promote developments of Korea's film industry, the second annual Korean Film Festival is being held from September 9 to October 20 in Washington, D.C. Co-hosted by Korean Embassy in USA and the Smithsonian Freer Gallery, the festival features a total of 13 Korean films starting with "Arahan", a martial art comedy directed by Ryoo Seung-wan as its opening film.
According to ambassador of the Republic of Korea, Hong Suk-hyun, this year's festival presents the full diversity of Korean cinema ranging from a low-budget experimental film, documentaries to a blockbuster comedy, displaying the vitality and dynamic social change of the Korean society.
The Deputy Director of the Freer and Sackler Galley, Jim Ulak, mentioned that this year's film festival is a meaningful event to introduce the vitality of contemporary Korean art scenes in that the Smithsonian Institute has been dedicated to introducing Korean visual culture for over 100 years.
The Director of the Freer Gallery, Dr. Julian Raby, also stressed the importance of Smithsonian's continuing collaboration with various Korean cultural institutes, adding that the institute is working for a growing presence of Korean art.
Back in 2004, the Korean cultural institute under Korean Embassy in USA had 33 Korean films screened at six theaters in Washington area from September 16 to the end of October, which ended up with a great success bringing over 4,000 audiences in total.
