This Week's Cultural News

Christmas is a time of fluttering hearts! For those who are planning to spend this year's Christmas with someone they love, these great performances will surely catch the eye.

The first performance is the musical "The Three Musketeers", a story set in 17th-century France, and filled with colorful stages and thrilling action. The emotional yet opera like and grand music is one of "The Three Musketeers'" greatest offerings.

This year's stage also boasts an all-star cast. Eom Ki-jun and Kim Mu-yeol star as d'Artagnan along with Kyuhyeon from Super Junior and Jay from Trax. Seo Bum-suk and Yoo Jun-sang play Athos, Min Yeong-gi and Choi Su-hyeong play Aramis, and Kim Bub-lae and Kim Jin-su take on the role of Porthos.

The musical "The Three Musketeers" is yet another adaptation of Alexandre Dumas 's novel The Three Musketeers, which has been introduced to the public over the years as animated movies, feature films, and novels.

[Interview : Kim Jin-su, Role of "Porthos"] "Acting in "The Three Musketeers" moved me and made me feel a connection. I've heard that audience members feel that way as well".

[Interview : Kim Sang-hyeon, Role of "Jussac"] "It is a musical about men's honor and their faith in each other".

The story revolves d'Artagnan, a young man aspiring to become a Royal Musketeer, and the three musketeers Athos, Porthos, and Aramis. The story of their adventures, love, and friendship is told at an exciting pace.

The grandness of European musicals was well-adapted to fit Korean enjoyment and emotion, earning great reviews from the audience.

[Interview : Seo Bum-suk, Role of "Athos"] "It's the end of the year, so we're sure that you're feeling cold and like you need to tie up loose ends. We hope our musical will give you courage, hope, dreams, and refreshing happiness".

With a cast of charming men whose singing will melt the winter cold away, "The Three Musketeers" will end the year with a fantastic finale of fabulous sets and excellent actors.

The next performance is the musical "AIDA", created by Elton John, the master of pop music, and Tim Rice, a major musical lyricist. AIDA is performed by a cast of 24 talented actors including Ok Ju-hyeon and Jeong Seon-a , each being solely responsible for his or her part for all 120 performances during 3 months.

5 years ago, when the musical "AIDA" was first staged in Korea, Kolleen Park had participated in the team as musical director. This year she is back as the director to lead the performances here in Korea.

[Interview : Kolleen Park, Director] "After having done this once for 9 months in 2005, I found a lot of factors that I could change to make it easier to understand and more moving for Koreans, without departing too much from the original. That's why it was upgraded".

The musical "AIDA" sings the sad story of Aida, princess of Nubia, Amneris, the daughter of an Egyptian pharaoh, and Radames, the man that the two women love.

The best part of the performance is undoubtedly the beautiful music created by Elton John and Tim Rice.

[Interview : Kolleen Park, Director] "Elton John's music and Tim Rice's lyrics. The set speaks for itself, but the design and colors are so perfectly simple. The story is the typical love story, but it's told in a way that's very neat and down to the core".

The performance is a perfect reproduction of the original Broadway production. AIDA will give audience members an unforgettable experience of true love and deep emotion.
