We are the 'stars' to bring glory to the world

Four winning works from the 2006 Star Project are announced

The Korea Culture and Content Agency (KOCCA, CEO: Suh, Byung-Moon) announced on Aug. 14 that it has selected the four winners in the 2006 Star Project program, namely the Z-Squad (Enemes), Rocket Boy & Toro (ImageStone), Giant's Friend (Samji Animation), and Tooba Noonbori (Daiwon C&A Holdongs).

All of the works, which are TV animation series for children, were selected because of their high production values and outstanding creativity and uniqueness. In particular, these works have been known to receive high scores in joint production with foreign companies or marked to have a huge potential as a One-Source Multi-Use (OSMU) project. As winners in the 2006 Star Project, they will receive KOCCA's one-stop support services to boost their advancement into foreign markets, which include production budget support, support in various major Korean and foreign exhibitions, marketing support, and legal counseling.

KOCCA's Star Project has become a representative support project that assists Korean cultural content producers to enter foreign markets. The 2006 Star Project received a total of 26 works for competition, which went through a three-stage screening. "Compared with the works submitted last year, this year's works have shown a huge improvement in terms of quality, which made selection very difficult for us", said a jury member who took part in the first-stage screening. "The criteria for the screening were whether a work is a joint-production with a foreign party, the work's concrete marketing plan in relation to other business plans, and also the work's commercial potential".

"During the screening process, we analyzed each submitted work's plan not only from its Korean production company but also from its foreign partner who presented the plan to the foreign jury, which we believe shows the fact that the globalization of Korean animation companies through the Star Project has considerably progressed", said Kim, Jin-Kyu, director of the Industrial Promotion Team at KOCCA. "We will continue to conduct the Star Project so that it continues to serve as an excellent opportunity to promote the globalization of Korean companies".

Established in 2002, the Star Project aims at building a series of success models in cultural content by providing focused support on works that have a high export potential, and based on these models, planting positive business feedback structure in its early stages. All of the 26 works selected until the last year's Star Project have received multifaceted support worth a total of 12 billion Korean won, making the Star Project a representative supporting project in the Korean cultural content industry. This year, in particular, KOCCA made public all of the screening critiques from the jury and the distribution chart by screening items, helping potential companies plan their future projects.
