To further promote "hallyu (Korean wave)", or the popularity of South Korean pop culture abroad, the Korea National Tourism Organization (KNTO) opened an online database http://www.hellohallyu.com last week.

Having started its services with the launch of Korean and Japanese versions of the Internet site, the home to pop culture and tourism related information will go on to provide English and simplified Chinese editions, both of which are scheduled to premier on July 28. The traditional Chinese version of the site will open on August 12.

The site gives foreigners access to the profiles of 68 top celebrities and information on Korean television dramas and movies.

Another main feature of the site is its detailed coverage of filming locales.

E-Marketing director Rhee JS at the KNTO, says that the state-run tourism body's ultimate goal is to boost the number of visitors Korea's official travel website http://www.tour2korea.com .

"The diversifying of ways of providing information on Korea and its culture will hopefully lead to an increased interest in Korea and stimulate tourism", he said.
